FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I know if an air conditioner installer is qualified?

You can go onto the ARCtick website to check to see if your installer is qualified (http://www.lookforthetick.com.au/refrigerant-handling-licence-check/).  Just enter the technician’s licence number and surname and the search facility will advise you if the licence is current.  If your air conditioner is not installed by a qualified technician your manufacturer’s warranty will be void.

When my air conditioner is installed does it need to be pressure leak tested?

Yes.  In the Australia and New Zealand Refrigerant Handling Code of Practice it states that when installing an air conditioner it must be pressure leak tested.  Using dry nitrogen, is one of the best ways to test for any leaks.  If your air conditioner is not tested during installation it will void your warranty.

Does my air conditioner need regular maintenance?

Yes.  Your system should be serviced annually.  By maintaining your split or ducted air conditioning system you can ensure that your system is always working at its optimum.  Not only is it important to the life of the air conditioner, not to mention the cleanliness and health of your home, but it also pays for itself by catching small faults before they have the chance to turn into major problems.

What does a regular split system or ducted service cost?

At Brisbane Air Conditioning & Installation a regular split system service costs $110 and a regular ducted service costs $130.  Depending on the condition of the unit, extra costs may incur.

What is ducted air conditioning?

Ducted air conditioning allows the installation of a duct in every desired room and a wall mounted control that controls all functions of the system including temperature and fan speed.  The ducts can be zoned meaning you only need to activate the ducts in the particular rooms being occupied.

What is an inverter air conditioner?

Inverter air conditioners are more economical to operate, quieter to run and can reach desired temperatures quicker than conventional air conditioners. The Inverter component allows the outdoor unit to vary its speed and output to match the required capacity of the indoor unit. Thus, the Inverter model can achieve 30% more operating efficiency than conventional models and therefore, is much cheaper to run.
